Registered Nurse (RN) and Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Positions

Brief Description
- Must have 3 months prior experience and possess current Pennsylvania License as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN)
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action as well as patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents

RN and LPN Administrative Functions
- Responsible to be knowledgeable of the mission and philosophy of the organization within the scope of responsibilities
- Direct the day-to-day functions of the nursing assistants in accordance with current rules, regulations and guidelines that govern the long-term care facility
- Cooperate with other resident services to ensure that the resident's total regimen of care is maintained
- Ensure that all nursing service personnel are following their respective job descriptions
Charting and Documentation
- Fill out and complete accident/incident reports and submit to RN Supervisor as required
- Charting nurses notes in an informative and descriptive manner that reflects the care provided to the resident as well as the resident's response to the care
- Record new/changed diet orders
- Transcribe physician's orders to resident charts, medication cards, treatment/care plans and computer, as required
- Complete monthly nursing summaries
- Maintain weekly treatment summaries on skin problem areas
Drug Administration Functions
- Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician
- Verify the identity of the resident before administering the medication/treatment
- Notify the attending physician of automatic stop order prior to the last dosage being administered
- Notify the Supervisor of all drug and narcotic discrepancies noted on your shift
Personnel Functions
- Develop work assignments and/or assist in completing and performing such tasks
- Review complaints and grievances made or filed by your assigned personnel. Make appropriate reports to the Supervisor as required or as may be necessary.
- Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the unit and shift
- Monitor that all employees are treated fairly and with respect.
Nursing Care Functions
- Inform nursing personnel of new admissions, their expected time of arrival, room assignments, etc.
- Ensure that rooms are ready for new admissions.
- Make independent decisions concerning nursing care.
- Participate in the orientation of new residents and family members to the facility
- Admit, transfer and discharge residents as necessary
- Monitor seriously ill residents as necessary
- Report problem areas to the Supervisor and Dietary Supervisor
Education
- Must possess current Pennsylvania License as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Resident Nurse (RN)
Experience
- Three months experience required
Specific Requirements
- Must possess a current, unencumbered license to practice as a RN or LPN in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
- Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public
- Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel.
